Position: Planning Clerk  
Location: Town of Awendaw
Hours: 20-30 hours per week and some nights for board meetings.
Employment Status: (Part-time but could be full time)

Position: Town of Awendaw Water Distribution/ Water Treatment Operator
General Purpose: Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the surface water treatment plant, and groundwater systems.

Pay Range: $20.67-25.84/hour

WATER DISTRIBUTION/TREATMENT DUTIES

  • Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of groundwater well systems including hydrant flow operations
  • Operates the surface water treatment plant including plant start-up, shut down, filter operations, and instituting alternative water supply procedures with minimal supervision
  • Performs basic water treatment plant and equipment maintenance and checks
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings
  • Investigates customer water service quality issues
  • Installs chlorine and ammonia cylinders and/or containers
  • Assists in performing chemical operations for the water treatment plant
  • Extracts samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analysis and completes required paperwork
  • Operates, calibrates, transports, and performs basic equipment maintenance
  • Performs operational checks on wells and treatment plants and records information on operating records and logs
  • Able to perform chemical adjustments in water treatment independently
  • Performs basic electrical functions including resetting and/or restarting equipment and changing fuses
  • Processes computer work orders
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
     
    DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • 1-3 years related work experience, or a combination of education and experience as required for South Carolina “B” Water Treatment license.
  • Valid SC Driver’s License required. 
  • SC “Class C”  Water Treatment license.
  • SC “Class C”  Water Distribution license required within one year of hire.
  • Willing to be trained and get a certification if the above is not already acquired.

PLANNING CLERK POSITION DUTIES:

Reporting to the Planning Director, the Zoning Clerk is the face of the Planning and Building Departments. The Clerk devotes a significate amount of time on routine administrative tasks and often works closely with the public to provide customer service on planning and development issues. The employee will perform work requiring clerical skills, public relations, research, records management, and be able to work with minimum supervision. The position is also responsible for setting up and taking the minutes of the Planning Commission and related meetings.

  • With a focus on customer service, coordinates the review and approval of residential commercial development projects by managing review times, answering inquiries, and dispersing plans for internal/external reviewers, and maintaining accurate records of each.

  • Maintains knowledge of the development review process and utilizes this knowledge to assist in the timely and smooth review of development to facilitate economic and community development.

  • Schedules and conducts pre-application meetings with external applicants and the City review team.

     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience: A High School diploma is required. Some college course work is desirable. Degree preferred. Must have a minimum of four years of experience in an administrative or similar staff support function. Knowledge of zoning regulations, general land use development, building codes and manual and electronic record-keeping is highly desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.
